ANAC (abbreviation for ANAlysis Compared) is the Total Lubricants corporate diagnosis system for diesel engines and other driveline components, based on the analysis of used oil. Other than the classical oil analysis, offered by most specialized labs, the ANAC system is not only looking for a diagnosis of the residual quality of the oil itself, but primarily focusing on the wear behavior of the engines, gearboxes, axles etc.
Just as a patient when looking at the result of his blood test, is more interested in what it will tell him about his own physical condition, than in what it tells him of his blood !
History
ANAC was founded in the late 60's by the Belgian branch of the French Petroleum group ELF, and may be considered as a pioneer in the European oil analysis business. ANAC always acknowledged the importance of the statistical approach in order to determine reference values which allow a basis of comparison.
The first users ( mainly transport and public bus companies) very soon discovered the gains brought by a close ANAC follow up of their fleet, and ANAC as a bonus service for lubricant customers became a top priority for ELF on an international basis. Not only fleet operators but also most European engine OEM's started to make us of ANAC in the 1990s because of the treasure of information collected in the database on engines of their own brand.
After the merger of the oil companies Total, Fina and Elf to the new TOTAL group in 2000, ANAC replaced the former oil analysis systems TDL, FinaCheck and Diagoparc and has now 7 lab's ( France, Belgium, Turkey, Senegal, Mexico, Cameroon and Marocco) in operation which all make use of the same database, still hosted in Belgium, were it all started 35 years ago.
ANAC diagnosis : A unique tool for improving the competitiveness of your business
ANAC aims to offer to the fleet owner a service which will allow him to apply conditional maintenance, and therefore guarantee the maximum lifetime of the equipment, with minimal operation costs ( lowest costprice per km/ working hour).
A unique data base
In order to obtain this goal, ANAC has established over a 30 year period a database of reference values on 11.000 different component types, statistically calculated on approx. 3 million analyses. When a diagnosis shows deviations from the normal wear pattern, comments indicating the degree of danger and the most appropriate intervention are established on the basis of the feedback collected from the ANAC users over a 20 year period.
Advantages : Accuracy and relevance of the diagnosis
This typical approach makes ANAC not only the management system by excellence for fleet managers, but it is also a tool used by many OEM's as a source of information in engine development and follow up of maintenance contracts.
Specialized teams for specific needs
The two main ANAClabs in Europe are situated in Ertvelde ( Ghent, Belgium) and Solaize ( Lyon , France). The Belgian lab which is completely robotized and hosts the database and web servers for customer use, and treats 140.000 ANAC samples per year. The Solaize lab is specially equipped for the special analyses for the dedicated applications ANAC Expert, ANAC Visio, ANAC Gas, ANAC Coolant and the industrial ANAC Indus range ( 80.000 samples per year in all). Both labs are complementary and can offer a solution for every customer in any application. For the treatment of the analyses of the local market, other ANAC labs are available in Turkey, Senegal, Cameroun, Mexico and Marocco.
